Freight Transport Permit

Question:

I want to submit an application for freight transport over 3.5 tons. What documents, besides the application, need to be submitted to the transport authority? I am the managing director of an LLC.

Answer:

To expand the business activity to transportation, you must provide mainly the following documents, typically in one copy:

  • An extract from the criminal record of you as the managing director (original, not older than 3 months).
  • An extract from the criminal record of the transport manager, if it is not you as the managing director (original, not older than 3 months).
  • An extract from the criminal record of the legal entity – your company.
  • An employment contract with the transport manager, if you are not serving in this role.
  • You must have a submitted financial statement showing equity of at least EUR 9,000 for the first vehicle and an additional EUR 5,000 for each subsequent vehicle. If your company is not older than 15 months, it is sufficient to demonstrate financial security through the registered share capital in the commercial register. In some cases, the proof of insurance is possible.
  • A document proving the location for garage or parking (rental agreement).
  • Copies of vehicle registration certificates, technical inspections, and emission control certificates.
  • A rental agreement if the vehicles are rented.

In the transportation application, you can also tick a box agreeing to allow the transportation office to request your criminal record. In this case, it is not necessary to provide the criminal record extract, but you must provide the transportation office with the necessary information for them to request the extract. Some transportation offices offer a form for this purpose online. However, the transportation office cannot request the criminal record of the legal entity – your company; you must provide this document yourself.

If the managing director is not also the transport manager, you need to provide an employment contract. This contract can be for just a few hours per month, but a simple agreement is not accepted; it must be a formal employment contract.

The fee for issuing the road transport operator’s license is EUR 30. The fee for the community license is EUR 20. The decision period is 30 days.

Question:

I would like to ask if an international transport permit requires only a trade license or also a permit from the transport authority.

We currently own a Hyundai ix55 vehicle with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons and a trailer with a total weight of up to 2.5 tons. We plan to purchase a Mitsubishi Pajero with a total weight of up to 3.5 tons and a trailer with a total weight of 3.5 tons.

Do we need a license for international freight transport for vehicles under 3.5 tons or above 3.5 tons, given that the entire set exceeds 3.5 tons?

Answer:

If the total weight of the vehicle and trailer combination exceeds 3.5 tons, you will need a permit from the transport authority for the operation of road freight transport. This permit is valid within the territory of Slovakia. If you intend to transport goods within the EU, you will also need to apply for a community license.

Question:

Is it possible for the transport manager to be from the Czech Republic or a Croatian citizen with their certificate of professional competence?

Answer:

If the certificate is issued according to EU legislation, it can be accepted. If you send it to us, we will check it.
